Portmax is a small independent software studio based in Budapest, Hungary. We build mobile apps, web apps, and retro-inspired games — and occasionally take on small, focused custom software projects for clients who know what they need.
Who we are
The studio is run by a software engineer with years of experience building and running production systems — from early-stage startups to larger platforms. We've worked on everything from backend infrastructure and developer tooling to mobile apps and consumer products.
We started Portmax to make software on our own terms: smaller scope, higher craft, and full ownership of what we build.
How we work
We care about getting the details right. We write code that lasts, test on real devices, and don't ship things we're not proud of. We prefer simple, focused solutions over complicated ones.
For our own products, we move at our own pace and build what we find interesting. For client work, we keep projects small and well-defined — that's where we do our best work.
Where we are
Budapest, Hungary. We work remotely and have collaborated with clients and teams across Europe.
